The actress, 21,  - - took to her social media over the weekend to clap back at critics.
'Some people out there and just being… senselessly mean. And it's unnecessary.

And I know, I know, "If you can't handle the heat…" and all that nonsense, and you're right,' she posted. 
'But our film is actually very good, it's just cool to hate on fun nowadays. That's okay. We're good.' 
The movie had a rather dismal opening weekend with just $65.5 million at the worldwide box office.

hey our film is actually really good! but mostly i just absolutely loved making it and the people i met whilst doing so :) go see The West Side Story actress added, 'We have an 85% audience score for a reason.'
Rachel's defense of her film comes after she admitted she took the role because she needed a job. 
While talking to the at last week's premiere of her movie, the star, 21, got honest about how she ended up joining the DC universe.
She said she 'needed a job' before adding, 'I'm being so serious.'
'The reality is we're in the middle of a pandemic and I was not working and I couldn't get a job for the life of me, because West Side Story hadn't come out yet,' she confessed.

'It was really hard to book work for me.'
The Steven Spielberg directed reboot of the classic musical and beloved film was Zegler's first role.
She was dubbed a sensation in the lead role of Maria and won the Golden Globe for Best Actress - Motion Picture Comedy or Musical.
Zegler was excited when she landed the role of Anthea and learned she'd be starring alongside Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu as one of the vengeful daughters of Atlas.

'I loved the first movie, and the fact that they even wanted me to come in for a callback and then a camera read and then everything in between, I'm so lucky that I got this job,' she added.

Zegler's boyfriend Josh Rivera, 27, was her date for the Los Angeles premiere of her latest film.
The pair first became an item when they worked on Stephen Spielberg's 2021 remake of West Side Story, and they've followed up that joint project with the highly anticipated Hunger Games prequel.
Zeglar is starring the title role in 2024's Snow White and in The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes as District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird, while Rivera secured the role of a Hunger Games mentor named Sejanus Plinth.
'Never been prouder of someone in my life lemme tell you,' Zegler wrote on her Instagram Story over the summer when she shared the news of her boyfriend being hired for the prequel.
The up-and-coming actors appeared to make their romance Instagram official on Valentine's Day last year when Zegler shared a black-and-white selfie photo of the couple on Instagram.
'Committing valen-crimes,' captioned Zegler, who went on to post a video that showed Rivera feeding her during a romantic dinner.
