Repair Patches

Think about adding adhesive patches to your kit if you have several holes in your gear. If your kit doesn't include any of the items above You may want to consider adding a waterproof Aquaseal wader sealant. This water-tight glue can be applied to plastics, fabrics, metals and other materials for permanent repair. It's great for repairing drysuits, and can be applied in the field. Allow the sealant to set for up to 12 hours prior applying the repaired gear.

The essential field fabric kit for backpacks, tents and rainwear made of silicone-impregnated nylon. It includes one Clean Tape patch and a sil nylon repair swatch along with a 1/4-ounce tube of Gore-Tex Sil-Fix repair adhesive & sealant and brush. Apply patch to clean smooth surface. There should be a minimum of 1/2 inch overlap. Remove the release paper from the patch surface and rub it with moderate finger pressure (adhesive side facing down).

Surface preparation is crucial for successful repairs. Sunblock, acetone, or oils on shoes and boots could affect adhesion. Use Seam Grip with Cotol 240 Cure Accelerator for the best results.

Adhesive Patches

Clean up the area that has been punctured, then apply the tube-scuffer, or sandpaper to roughen the surface which makes it easier for glue to stick. Spread a thin layer of glue on the patch. Cover the area with a layer that is at least as large as the patch. Allow a few minutes for the glue to turn tacky before pressing the patch down and holding it securely in the place.

The kit contains two clear, adhesive-backed Tenacious Tape fabric repair patches. It also comes with a 1/4 ounce Seam Grip urethane sealant and repair adhesive. Perfect for reinforcing damaged sleeping bags, rainwear and packs.
