Consider adding adhesive patches to your kit if you've got a few holes in your equipment. These tough patches have an ultra-high-performance adhesive that is applied to a durable polyurethane backing that allows the tear to heal under pressure. Available in clear and colored options, these patches provide durability against punctures, moisture saltwater, sunlight and extreme temperatures.

If your kit doesn't include any of the above items, you may want to think about adding a waterproof Aquaseal wader sealant. The water-tight adhesive bonds to metals and fabrics for an unbreakable fix. It's perfect for repairing drysuits, and can be applied while on the job. Give the sealant at least 12 hours to dry before you can use your repaired equipment.

The essential field fabric repair kit for nylon tents that have silicone impregnated packs, rainwear, avon pack and more. The kit comes with one Clean Tape repair patch and an swatch of sil-nylon. Also included is a 1/4-ounce Gore-Tex Sealant & Repair Adhesive & Brush and Sealant tube. To use, place patch over a clean, smooth surface of damaged area with a minimum of 1/2 inch overlap. Remove the release paper, and rub adhesive side down using a moderate amount of pressure.

Surface prep is important to ensure successful repairs. Oils on shoes or boots sunblocks or solvents like acetone may affect adhesion. Make use of Seam Grip with Cotol 240 Cure Accelerator to achieve the best results.

Adhesive patches

These patches with adhesive are ideal for people who don't want to be waiting until they are back on the trail. Apply the self-adhesive patch, Avon Pack then roll it over.

Clean the area thoroughly and then use the tube-scuffer or sandpaper to roughen the surface, which aids in gluing. Spread a thin layer of glue on the patch, covering an area at least as large as the patch. Give it a few minutes to allow the glue to turn tacky before pressing the patch down and holding it firmly in the desired position.

This kit contains two clear, adhesive backed Tenacious Tape pressure sensitive fabric patch for repair and a 1/4 ounce tube of Seam Grip urethane repair adhesive and sealant. Ideal for strengthening damaged sleeping bags, tents, rainwear, packs and boots.
